Investigation into ‘selfie’ death at Taj Mahal

Sunday, 21 Sep, 2015 0

An investigation has begun after a Japanese tourist, who was reportedly taking a selfie at the Taj Mahal died after slipping down stairs.

Police said he lost consciousness and died later in hospital, adding that a heart attack was likely the ultimate cause of death.

According to an officer who spoke to the BBC, the tourist was with three other people when the incident happened and one of them had also fallen and fractured his leg.

There have been several incidents linked to selfies in recent months.

Last month, a man was gored to death by a bull while taking a selfie at the annual bull running festival in Villaseca de la Sagra.

Earlier this year, a 21-year-old woman accidentally shot herself in the head while posing for a selfie with a gun in Moscow. She survived the accident.

In January, three young men in India were killed by a speeding train as they posed for daring selfies. Coincidentally, they had been on their way to see the Taj Mahal.

There have also been several cases in Russia of children being electrocuted while taking selfies on top of railway carriages.
