Investigation into Southwest flight, helicopter near miss

Monday, 03 Nov, 2025 0

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a close call midair incident between a Southwest Airlines jet and a helicopter near Cleveland Hopkins Airport.

The aircraft had a loss of separation, breaching the required minimum distance.

The Southwest plane was making its final approach to land but had to abort it.

The airline said the pilot was able to land the plane a short time later without incident.

“We are engaged with the National Transportation Safety Board and will support the investigation,” Southwest said.

The helicopter was thought to be transporting a medical patient at the time of the incident.
