Jakarta Airport to offer dedicated LCC terminal
Jakarta’s main airport is getting its first dedicated low cost carrier terminal.
State-run airport operator Angkasa Pura II said it will convert Terminal 2F at Soekarno-Hatta Airport into a LCC terminal.
"It is starting on May 1, 2019," said Muhammad Awaluddin, president direcyor of AP II.
The transport and tourism ministries have backed the change.
The LCC designation is a move to boost tourism and improve transit connectivity.
However it is not likely to result in major immediate changes for airlines or passengers.
Awaluddin said it is part of a move to separate different operations at the sprawling airport which often calls for lengthy trips between terminals.
He also said a separate terminal for travellers on Umroh pilgrimage will be constructed.
