Dr. Diane Robertson and Family with Momo Wang, Taiwanese Homestay guest
aims to market authentic lifestyles, people and experiences
The new Villages as Businesses programme was developed by IITP and Countrystyle to create economic opportunities by offering community tourism products and attractions that build on unique natural, cultural and human capital.
It aims to market authentic lifestyles, people and experiences. It views the tourism product of the Caribbean as relating not only to specific ‘resort areas’ or traditional tourism establishments, but to the entire country.
All participating Villages/Communities are encouraged to stimulate entrepreneurship and identify unique opportunities, such as natural, man-made or traditional cultural practices, within their local environment.
Community Tourism, the Village Community Experience tours and Homestays respond to a growing demand for more responsible and mutually beneficial relationships between host and visitor
The Ministry of Tourism in Jamaica is developing a Policy Framework and Strategy for community-based tourism and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Jennifer Griffiths stated in her letter of support that ‘the IIPT Caribbean/Countrystyle Tourism Village programme for Jamaica and the Caribbean region will complement the Government of Jamaica’s thrust towards community-based tourism.
