Japanese tourists on the move again
Air New Zealand will more than triple the number of charter flights from Japan to New Zealand in response, the airline says, to “a resurgence in demandâ€.
Between December 26 and April 3 next year, Air New Zealand will operate 14 return charter flights to Auckland from nine departure points across Japan.
Last summer Air NZ operated only four charter flights
Air NZ general manager Japan, Edward Overy, said the extra flights were “solid proof of the strong market recovery we are witnessing hereâ€.
“Japan is a very important market for us, last year it contributed almost 85,000 visitors to New Zealand, making it our fifth largest tourist market.â€
Tourism New Zealand regional manager Japan, Jason Hill, said
the charters would fly out of secondary regions, “which means they will be opening up direct flights to a new group of Japanese visitorsâ€.
