Java’s own Royal Wedding to wow the crowds
Royal wedding lovers who didn’t make it to London in April this year can head for the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta for Java’s own grand royal wedding between Princess Gusti Raden Ajeng Nur Astuti Wijareni, the youngest daughter of the Sultan and Governor of Yogyakarta, and Achmad Ubaidillah.
The wedding – a traditional Javanese ceremony – will take place on October 18 at the Penenpen Mosque at 7.30 in the morning, followed by the Royal Wedding parade, attended by all members of royal family, including Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
The colourful Royal Wedding parade will be showcase of traditional culture and pageantry, led by five royal horse carriages, with the newlyweds riding in the Jongwiyat, a horse carriage built in the 1880s.
The royal wedding will coincide with the 255th anniversary celebrations of Yogyakarta City with its finale at the Jogja Java Carnival on October 22.
