Jersey Airport still closed
Following the strong winds and high tides unleashed by Storm Ciaran, Jersey Airport remains closed.
It is not expected to reopen until mid-afternoon today.
There has been some damage in the terminal buildings.
“Engineers have been assessing the damage Ciarán and detailed inspections of the airport estate have identified extensive infrastructure, equipment and system failures,”: owner Ports of Jersey said.
“Until the work is completed and the airport is safe, it has to remain closed to commercial operations.”
An update is expected at noon.
So far for today, British Airways, EasyJet and Blue Islands flights have been cancelled.
Guernsey and Alderney airports were closed as the storm hit but were expected to reopen this morning.
Jersey was buffeted by winds of over 100 mph on Thursday, damaging homes and injuring some residents.
Right now the island is technically cut off.
Condor’s passenger services from the UK aren’t expected to restart until after the weekend.
