Jersey gains Stansted link

Tuesday, 24 Feb, 2006 0

A new air link between Stansted and Jersey is due to start in May.

Twice daily flights are to be run by Air Atlantique using the operating name of Atlantic Express from May 27.

The year-round service will be operated by either a 66-seat ATR-72 or a 50-seat ATR-42. Fares start at £39 rising to £99 plus taxes and charges.

The carrier also plans a Jersey-Zurich service from the summer.

Air Atlantique chairman Mike Collett said: “If you want to fly into Europe you need to be able to get to Stansted. Every five minutes there is a low fare flight to somewhere in Europe.

“It is remarkable that Jersey does not already have direct services to Stansted, as it also serves London very well.”

Jersey’s tourism director David de Carteret said: “The introduction of Stansted opens a major hub to international travel for our visitors and local residents. The Zurich route adds further to this with obvious benefit to the business sector.”
