Jet Airways fires pilot who attacked flight examiner
Indian carrier Jet Airways confirmed it has fired a pilot alleged to have assaulted a flight examiner during a training session.
The foreign pilot was accused of assault by the examiner during training in Bengaluru last month.
"The service contract of the pilot has been terminated after an internal investigation found him to be guilty of assault. The thorough investigation was initiated after the trainer reported the assault incident," an airline source told local media.
This sparked an attempted boycott by Indian pilots not to work with their expat colleagues in the cockpit.
The National Aviator’s Guild (NAG) urged Indian pilots at Jet Airways not to work with their foreign colleagues after the incident and a series of alleged racist comments made during flights by expat pilots.
The pilots’ union later postponed that threat but maintains expats are treated far more leniently than homegrown pilots.
"The management has conveyed and assured that due process will be followed and suitable action as per company policy would be taken against the concerned expat pilots," NAG said in a communication to its members.
