Jetstar launching Australia’s first low cost route to South Korea
Budget carrier Jetstar will launch the first low fare route linking Australia and South Korea.
It will start flying between the Gold Coast and Seoul Incheon from December 8, 2019, using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The service will initially operate three times a week.
Jetstar is the only carrier serving the route and it becomes the first linking the counties by a low cost airline.
"Research shows that South Korean travellers consistently rank Australia as the top destination they want to visit, but they were unlikely to travel without low-cost direct flights," said Jetstar Group CEO, Gareth Evans.
"South Koreans already travel more frequently than any other nationality in the Asia Pacific, so there’s no doubt they will take advantage of these new direct flights."
Korean budget carrier Jeju Air has previously linked Incheon and Cairns with charter flights but this is the first ever scheduled service from South Korea.
Jetstar said Jeju Air plans to codeshare on the route.
Gold Coast tourism officials expect a AS170 bonanza in tourism related spending with 50,000 seats added to the market.
