Jobs at risk as Wyndham triggers Hoseasons integration

Three directors of Hoseasons have been made redundant as new owner Wyndham European Rentals starts integrating the operation.

Hoseasons chief executive Richard Carrick is to take on a consultancy role on Wyndham projects while he considers job options both internally and externally.

Directors Tim Fullam, Sara Zimmerman and Carol Newell have accepted redundancy terms.

A 30-day consultation period with staff over an unspecified number of job losses is about to get underway. Hoseasons employs almost 300 people across three sites, but mainly at the operator’s base in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Certain functions are expected to be integrated but it is anticipated that there will not be a significant number of job losses and new roles will be created.

Hoseasons will come under the responsibility of Wyndham-owned Holiday Cottages Group managing director Geoff Cowley.

The Hoseasons head office in Lowesoft will cover the combined parks, boats, loges and apartments side of the business.

Villas and cottages will be based at the Holiday Cottages’ base in Earby, North Yorkshire.

Hoseasons’ Pali Badwell is staying on as operational director for parks, boats, lodges and apartments, including the Blakes brand which is moving to Lowestoft.

Wyndham intends to maintain the Hoseasons’ brand as it is considered to be one of the most recognised in the domestic travel sector.

“Our intention is to grow the business. We think there is a lot of mileage in combining the number one and number two players in the market,” a Wyndham spokesman said.

The Hoseasons’ acquisition in February brought holiday parks to the company as well as 2,500 cottages to add to the Holiday Cottages Group portfolio of 10,000 in the UK and more than 4,000 overseas.

A combined trade sales function will be created to promote what is being seen as the most comprehensive self-catering inventory in the UK market.

Carrick said: “I will be working on a number of projects for Wyndham. If a bigger role materialises I would be more than happy with that. Equally, I would consider any other full-time job.”

One option he is considering is pulling together a range of niche travel brands in order to attract private equity funding for development and expansion.
