Holland America Line’s newest ship, the 2,106-guest ms Nieuw Amsterdam, will sail its maiden voyage on 4 July 2010. Built at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard near Venice, the Nieuw Amsterdam is the 15th cruise liner in the Holland America Line fleet and the fourth to carry that name
Following her inaugural sailing, the Nieuw Amsterdam will operate several 12-day Mediterranean sailings, then embark on a crossing of the Atlantic to the Caribbean with seven-day eastern and western island itineraries from November through March 2011.
The ship’s décor has a New York City theme, marking the city’s founding as Nieuw Amsterdam by the Dutch. Art, craftwork and historical artefacts documenting New York’s Native American history and Dutch influences, along with the history and glamour of Holland America Line’s 138-year association with the world’s greatest city, are displayed throughout the ship’s expertly finished public areas.
