Kenya confirms visa fees to stay low

Saturday, 15 Mar, 2010 0

Kenya’s tourism visa fees, reduced in 2008 as a temporary measure following the election violence of late 2007, will stay permanently at the current lower level.

The announcement came at ITB in Berlin despite the country reporting international arrivals approaching record 2008 levels.

The fee remains at £20 or $25 for single entry whether the visa is obtained from a Kenyan Embassy or High Commission or issued on arrival in Kenya.

Permanent secretary of the Kenya tourism ministry Eunice Miima, speaking with Kenya Tourist Board managing director Muriithi Ndegwa, also confirmed that discussions were taking place with regard to the introduction of a unified visa for countries within the East African Economic Zone.

Economic Zone is Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

She expected agreement on a system for issuing this new unified visa by July this year.
