Kidnapped tourists released, say reports
Algeria: German authorities say 16 out of 32 are free and unharmed
Some 16 of the tourists who were allegedly kidnapped in Algeria are reported to have been released this morning.
German and Austrian authorities are claiming that 16 of the 32 tourists that went missing over the last few months have now been accounted for and are unharmed. The online news provider Ananova also states that German authorities are hopeful that the remaining missing tourists will also be released soon.
As reported by News From Abroad, the tourists went missing over the last few months as they travelled through the remote south-eastern parts of the country. Reports suggested that they were being held by Islamic extremists, and while the exact circumstances of the “release” have not been revealed, there are suggestions it was achieved through a raid by Algerian forces.
