Koh Tao in spotlight again after tourist ‘suicide’
The Thai island of Koh Tao is back in the glare of global media attention after a French tourist was found hanged in his rented bungalow.
Police said they found the body of Dimitri Povse, 29, suspended from a beam and are treating it as suicide.
There was no signs of a struggle and a suicide note was left, said Police Lt. Gen. Somsak Noorod.
However a photo of Povse’s body, still suspended from the beam was posted online, showing his hands tied behind his back.
In the last 24 hours it has been widely discussed on social media channels with many bloggers strongly disputing the official police line, suggesting foul play.
An autopsy carried out by the police concluded the cause of death as ‘asphyxiation.’
This latest death comes as two migrant workers from Myanmar await trial for the double murder of British backpackers David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23.
