Labor Day holiday air travel forecast to rise
Air travel over the Labor Day holiday period is expected to rise by about 3% trade group Airlines for America says.
Up to 14.2 million travelers will take to the skies from Wednesday, September 2, through Tuesday, September 8, an increase in about 59,000 passengers a day from 2014.
"A4A projected an all-time high for summer travel this year and year-over-year increases continue," said John Heimlich, A4A vice president and chief economist.
"With capacity increasing and airfares trending downward, air travel continues to be more accessible and a bargain for cost-conscience consumers."
The trade group predicts about 1.6 million will be international fliers and Friday, September 4 is expected to be peak day for air travel.
If a recent Expedia report is anything to go by, there will likely be the annual last minute scramble for flights and hotel rooms.
It said last week that based on likely projections, only about 20% of bookings for the Labor Day period so far been made by the end of July.
