lastminute extends deal with Amadeus
Lastminute.com has implemented a distribution agreement with Amadeus.
This means that Amadeus is now the GDS behind 50 percent of the air bookings made through lastminute.com as well as Travelselect.com and Travelprice.com. Lastminute has an agreement with Worldspan to process the remaining 50 percent of bookings.
Lastminute chief executive, Brent Hoberman told TravelMole that the website used two GDSs to benefit the customer. He said: “We think that this is what is best for the customer because if one GDS has a problem, you can fall back on the other one.”
A spokesperson told TravelMole that Amadeus expected to process £1 million worth of bookings per year as a result of the deal with lastminute.
Lastminute has chosen the Amadeus Application Programme Interface, which includes most of Amadeus’ products such as the low fare search product, Value Pricer.
Amadeus is keen to emphasise its compatibility with online agencies like lastminute. The GDS claims that independent research indicates the European online travel market will leap from 4.2 billion euro in 2001 to 20.6 billion euro by 2006. Amadeus director travel agency partners, Gillian Gibson, said: “This deal underlines our position as the leading technology provider to key online travel websites.”
