Laura Robson’s still a Wimbledon tweetheart

Multinational technology company and Wimbledon sponsor, IBM, has released its analysis of the Twitter activity surrounding the tennis championships in the London. It’s been a dramatic tournament so far with plenty of shock exits but British female number one, Laura Robson, played her way into the fourth round of the singles and further into the nation’s hearts. The 19-year-old tops the list of the most discussed players on Twitter with 179,000 tweets about her, followed by Andy Murray with 155,000 and Djokovic with 152,000. The Wimbledon Championships as a whole has topped last year’s Twitter chatter with more than 3 million tweets at the point of the analysis (Wednesday 3rd July). Siren’s backing Murray all the way!

Social networking site, Bebo – known for being popular with the younger generation – may be re-launched after one of the original founders purchased it for $1 million (£657,000) at auction this week. After selling it just five years ago for a whopping $850m, it has been two very good deals for the tech entrepreneur. Michael Birch announced the acquisition and alluded to reinventing the site in a tweet, stating: "We just bought Bebo back for $1m. Can we actually reinvent it? Who knows, but it will be fun trying…" Watch this space…

After much anticipation, Instagram recently launched a video feature – taking on the ever expanding network of Vine users. With the need to improve user experience and give mobile video platforms more functionality, Mashable gave a quick run-down of features where Instagram beats Vine…let battle commence:

Clip Editing – videos can be edited and chopped. Get a frame wrong on Vine and it’s back to square one #frustrating

Cover Frames – the ability to entice millions of users to watch your video with a ‘splash photo’

Filters – enough said. The function that made Instagram a global powerhouse is also available for video – new age films with a vintage feel

Tap to focus – tap within the frame to focus depth of field. The result – a more professional finish

Image Stabilisation – Smooth out shaky footage by selecting the ‘vibrate’ icon

All in all, the Instagram video function is a triumph and another tool in the bag for those who like to record videos of their travels – it’s taken mobile video to the next level and allows users to create more professional, interesting and well-finished film footage.

And finally… take a peek at some of the activity team @SirenComms has been up to over the past 12 months in our latest show reel.
