Lawsuit alleges LATAM flight attendant sexually assaulted unaccompanied minor

A Florida man is suing LATAM Airlines alleging one of its flight attendants sexually assaulted his six year old son.

The boy was traveling as an unaccompanied minor from Brazil to the US.

Due to a ticket mix-up in Sao Paulo during a transfer, the boy was not allowed to board the flight to Florida, the federal lawsuit said.

That was resolved, but by then the US bound flight had departed so the boy was accommodated in a hotel overnight.

He was supervised at the hotel on a rota system by four flight attendants, and one, a male, sexually assaulted him, the suit alleges.

"LATAM, and the airline industry generally, had actual knowledge of the risk to unaccompanied minor children during lengthy layovers, and that unaccompanied minors who are negligently cared for could result in assaults of children," the lawsuit said.

The offense dates back to 2018.

LATAM said ‘it takes any allegation of this nature seriously and will fully cooperate with any resulting investigation.’
