Learn to sail in Bermuda
It’s an Olympic year, there is another round of the Americas Cup World series in Portsmouth, Cowes Week and, of course, the world famous Travel Industry Yacht Regatta on May 19, all adding up to a growing interest in sailing and more people taking up the sport.
In response to this growing demand for more accessible sailing and to celebrate being home to the 35th America’s Cup in 2017, the Bermuda Tourism Authority has launched a new learn to sail programme in association with the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dingy Club.
Visitors can now follow some of the world’s greatest sailors, including Sir Ben Ainslie, and sail on the Atlantic waters of Bermuda’s stunning Great Sound.
The Learn to Sail courses, ranging in length from half a day to five days for ages five and above, are designed for novices and improvers.
Established in 1844, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the Western hemisphere and an integral part of the islands’ heritage.
The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre, welcoming sailors of all skill-sets and sailing hours can count towards RYA certification.
The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dingy Club has a rich history of sailing and boasts the largest junior sail fleet in Bermuda.

The Travel Industry Yacht Regatta is being held in the same waters that Sir Ben and his colleagues at Land Rover BAR use every day to test their Americas Cup credentials.
Sponsored by Bermuda, it will feature a matched fleet racing over five separate courses to determine the winner for the seventh time of the McKenzie Cup.
The day starts with breakfast and a briefing at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble-Le Rice and ends with the now famous after party at The King and Queen Rhum pub.
