London ranked as top winter city break destination

London has emerged as the top winter city break destination, according to accommodation provider Travco.

The hotel wholesaler, which sells to over 80 countries and features 5,000 hotels in Europe and Thailand, found that London continued to out perform its European counterparts, with traditional weekend city break destinations of Paris and Rome following closely behind.

Vienna experienced “stunning sales” with almost 9,000 room nights for the month of December, ranking the Austria capital in fourth place, followed by Amsterdam.

Travco head of business development Robert Turner said: “London’s growth has exceeded expectations, there has been no slow down in terms of volume between the summer and winter months.

“London’s popularity can in part be put down to the city’s cultural vibrancy, which continues to attract tourists.

“Vienna has really grown over the last couple of months with lots of new hotels being contracted.”

The growth of low cost airlines has lead to Travco increasing its allocation of affordable three star accommodation across many destinations.
