Lufthansa faces further strikes
Lufthansa is facing the threat of further strikes following the breakdown of pay talks with the pilots’ union.
Fresh talks are imminent, said the airline, but the union could launch industrial action with just two days’ notice.
In April, a three-day strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilot’s union cost Lufthansa €60 million, according to the airline.
Pilots want a pay rise and the option to retire early at 55, instead of the airline’s average pensionable age for pilots of 61. The union has turned down an offer by the airline of 5% pay increase over four years.
