Malaysia keeps the awards rolling in
Malaysia has received four accolades from the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) hot off the heels after recently receiving four at the TravelWeekly (Asia) Industry Awards 2008.
The PATA awards were for the following categories:
** Marketing Media Awards – Travel Advertisement Broadcast Media
** “Visit Malaysia Year 2007†– Tourism Malaysia
** Marketing Media Awards – CD-ROM
** Travel Manual Interactive CD – Tourism Malaysia
** Marketing Media Awards – Promotional Travel Video
** “Recharge in a New World†– Sarawak, Borneo Sarawak Convention Bureau (www.sarawakcb.com)
** Education & Training Award
** Empowering Youths for a Brighter Future – Taylor’s School of Hotel Management
The presentation of the PATA Gold Awards 2008 will be held at PATA Travel Mart 2008 in Hyderabad, India, on 19 September 2008.
From TravelWeekly (Asia), Malaysia received awards for:
** Best Ecotourism Destination
** Best Brand Campaign for Tourism Malaysia’s Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign
** Best Convention and Exhibition Centre for Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre
** Best Travel Agency (Malaysia) for Reliance Pacific Berhad
These four awards were among sixty presented to travel trade members in Asia. Winners were determined from over 2.2 million votes cast online by readers and industry professionals.
Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, said the awards were a reflection of the winning combination of government and private sector partnerships that Malaysia has developed; the country’s dedication towards excellence in the hospitality industry; as well as the strategic positioning of Malaysia as a preferred destination.
Director of Tourism Malaysia Sydney, Mr Shahrin Mokhtar, added that Australian travellers were also increasingly becoming aware of Malaysia as a top eco-tourism destination with greater interest being shown in travel to Sabah and Sarawak.
“Our brand campaign for 2007 was strong and very successful, and as a result, we have gained terrific recognition in our eco-tourism and MICE facilities,†says Shahrin.
“Malaysia has also been achieving across a range of other areas including infrastructure, world-class hotels and resorts as well as services.”
“These eight awards will no doubt be encouragement for the country’s continuing efforts to improve on every level of delivery in the travel and hospitality sectors.â€
