Manchester Airport sees 12% rise in traffic
Manchester Airport handled more than three million passengers last month, pushing its annual rolling total to 27.2 million, a rise of 12%.
It said the increase coincided with the busiest day in its 79-year history.
Interim MD Collette Roche said: "As we enter the peak summer season I’d like to thank passengers for their continued commitment to Manchester Airport. We are matching this commitment through investment to make the airport better for passengers, airlines and the entire region."
In July, the airport started work on an expansion programme, including increasing Terminal 2 by 140%. "We hope that the start of the £1 billion works help build excitement among all of our passengers about the future of Manchester Airport, with the vast majority of the improvements being delivered as early as 2019," added Roche.
The airport saw a 6% increase in aircraft movements in July, with more than 20,000 take offs and landings.
Manchester Airport’s parent, MAG, also saw improvements at its other UK airports, including Stansted, which was up 10.5%, East Midlands, where traffic was up by 3.1%, and Bournemouth Airport grew 1.2%.
