Marriott to unify loyalty programs
Marriott International will combine its trio of reward programs this summer.
From August members of Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest will be able to earn or redeem points at the group’s 29 participating global brands comprising 6,500 hotels without converting points to an individual program.
The unified system will also allow members will earn more points faster, accruing about 20% more points for every dollar spent on average, Marriott said.
"We listened to the travel aspirations of our members and set our sights on unlocking the full potential of our loyalty programs," said David Flueck, senior vice president of Global Loyalty, Marriott International.
Karin Timpone, global marketing officer, Marriott International said: "We decided to announce the new benefits now and launch them as quickly as possible, so members could take full advantage. At the same time, we will continue to introduce more exclusive member experiences throughout the year on our Moments platforms."
The individual loyalty program names will live on until a new unified name is announced next year.
New tiers will allow members to reach elite status quicker, earning Silver status after booking ten nights and Gold after just 25 nights.
Platinum elite status is reached after 50 nights and Platinum Premier elite status from 75 nights.
This better aligns Marriott Rewards and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards with the Starwood program, Marriott said.
Additionally, there will be no blackout dates for redemptions and free night awards will be standardized based on peak, standard and off-peak pricing for all hotels.
