Mastercard makes big push in travel e-commerce with Masterpass
Mastercard recently announced a big push into the travel sector, expanded its MasterPass checkout service for speedier travel bookings.
MasterPass allows customers to store preferred payment methods and shipping details upon checkout using the ‘Buy with MasterPass’ button.
"Travel merchants are increasingly looking to drive efficiencies in the online booking process," said Vib Prasad, group head of MasterPass at MasterCard.
"MasterPass can provide a seamless checkout experience while delivering the security our cardholders have come to expect when using a MasterCard."
The service is now accepted in 24 countries for online or in-app purchases on any type of device.
New airlines signed up for Masterpass include Canadian carrier Westjet, Alitalia, Singapore Airlines and South African Airways.
In addition, Carnival Cruise Line will add the ‘Buy with MasterPass’ button to its website in early 2016.
Asia based online travel agent Zuji is also following suit.
"MasterPass brings a value-add to the overall user experience – our customers have a quick and convenient way to checkout without compromising on safety and security," said Zuji’s head of commercial, Chan Tze Yuan.
