Melbourne Airport strike set to bring travel disruption
Travellers are being warning of potential travel chaos with a looming Melbourne Airport strike.
Transport Workers’ Union members who refuel Qantas aircraft plan to walk out on Wednesday.
They are flighting for better pay and conditions.
The 24-hour airport strike is set to begin at 4am on Wednesday.
It could also affect flights operated by Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific.
“These are workers in one of the most dangerous jobs in the airport, yet they are being pushed to the limit,” said TWU official Mem Suleyman.
“These workers know it is the only option left to bring the company to a fair agreement.”
It comes as Qantas plans to hire 8,500 new workers over the next few years.
