Melia testing keyless entry wristbands
Melia Hotels International has unveiled new wearable tech for hotel guests, offering keyless room entry and a digital wallet.
It tapped Oracle to develop the bracelet device which uses Bluetooth and short-range-connection technology.
Guests van use it to unlock their guestroom door by placing the bracelet near the lock, and pay for in-hotel services like meals in restaurants and spa services.
"When we designed the integration of the experience in different hotels with different themes, we began to investigate how we could make it easier for guests to move freely around all the services and spaces offered by the hotels," Melia Hotels COO André Gerondeau said in a release.
"The answer came through Oracle, who helped us develop the Meli bracelet in record time and meeting all our needs and expectations."
The bracelet is linked to the Melia app which lets users monitor spending during a stay and they can set credit limits, or cancel any booked services via the app.
It is currently being tested at two hotels in Majorca, Spain – the Sol Katmandu Park Hotel and the Calvia Beach Hotel.
