Melia to open first hotel in Myanmar
Spanish hospitality group Melia has signed an agreement with Vietnamese developer HAGL Group for a 429-room hotel in Myanmar.
Melia will manage the five-star Meli Yangon which will be sited in the mixed-use Hoang Anh Gia Lai Myanmar Centre which HAGL is developing.
Vo Thuong Son, CEO of HAGL said the hotel will feature a convention centre, conference halls, entertainment and sport areas, and several restaurants.
"As our tourism sector progresses on track, Melia will support the shortage of hotel rooms for the rising number of tourist arrivals to the country," said union minister of hotels and tourism, Htay Aung at the signing ceremony.
The 23-storey star Melia Yangon is the latest addition to the Melia pipeline in Asia Pacific following recent announcements for new hotels in Bali, Vietnam and China.
