MH cuts commission, Explore holds the line
SYDNEY – Agents whose wings have been clipped by Malaysia Airline’s two percent cut in published fare base commission are being reminded that the full 10 percent still flies with wholesale bookings made with Explore Holidays.
The travel wholesaler has reassured agents that the airline’s commission cut did not apply to MH wholesale nett fares booked through Explore Holidays.
Marketing manager for Explore Holidays, Ben Alcock, said the company was delighted to continue offering 10 percent commission on wholesale nett fares.
“We are happy to lead the way in this area as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the best possible incentives for agents engaging with Explore Holidays,” he said.
Malaysia Airlines said yesterday it would reduce its base commission from nine percent to seven percent by January 1.
Malaysia Airlines has reported a net loss of RM299.6 million for the three months ended September 30 compared with a net profit of RM38.1m in the previous corresponding period mainly due to the loss of RM202m in fuel hedging.
Aggressive sales campaigns and competitive pricing resulted in seat factor gaining 6.9 percentage points to 76.7 percent.
MH managing director and CEO Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said the fourth quarter continued to be tough although there were signs of improvement in passenger traffic.
