Middle Eastern airline’s growth highlighted by 100th destination

Thursday, 12 Nov, 2010 0

Qatar Airways has announced its 100th destination after 13 years in the aviation industry.

The Middle Eastern airline, like many of its neighbour airlines, has blossomed since it started with just four aircraft travelling to just 13 locations.

The carrier will fly to Aleppo in Syria four times a week from April next year and is the first Gulf-based airline to do so.

The move is expected to open up new routes for Syrian communities globally and enhance trade and economic links to the country.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways is delighted to commemorate our 100th destination by announcing our latest route to a city in our home region. As one of the oldest cities in the world, Aleppo is of strategic importance, providing links between east and west via Doha for business and leisure purposes.”

He added: “IATA pegged growth in the Middle East region at over 23 per cent in 2010 compared to last year. Our award-winning service and young and modern fleet will only propel our position as a leading global carrier.”
