More strikes loom after Lufthansa fails to block industrial action
A legal bid by Lufthansa to force its pilots to cancel their industrial action has failed.
A labour court in Hesse yesterday ruled there were no grounds to declare the strikes illegal.
The latest 24-hour strike ended yesterday, but the Vereinigung Cockpit union has threatened further walk-outs unless Lufthansa ditches plans to raise the retirement age of pilots from 55 to 60.
Lufthansa has offered to leave the retirement age as it is for existing members but not to extend it to new employees.
Lufthansa has warned that the industrial action, which has forced the cancellation of thousands of flights, affecting more than 200,000 passengers, will hit profits and damage the airline’s reputation.
