MSC Cruises unveils expansion in South Africa
MSC Cruises is deploy two ships in South Africa for the 2020/2021 cruise season.
It will be the first time that two different classes of MSC Cruises’ ships will be deployed in South Africa – MSC Opera (Lirica Class) and MSC Musica (Musica Class).
Ross Volk, MD for MSC Cruises South Africa, said the deployment would allow the cruise line to meet more fully the growth in demand it has experienced over the past few years.
"As such, it is also as a further sign of MSC Cruises’ long-standing commitment to this key market and its tourism," he said.
From December 2020 MSC Opera will homeport in Cape Town, joining MSC Musica, which will be based in Durban from November.
The ships will together sail over 60 cruises next season.
Itineraries include Pomene Bay in Mozambique, a marine safari experience, complete with its own beach club and, Portuguese Island, a small, uninhabited island set between the African coast and the Indian Ocean.
Ahead of the season, both ships will offer Grand Voyage itineraries to southern Africa, with MSC Musica already available to book.
The ships will leave Venice on October 25 2020 (MSC Musica) and November 82020 (MSC Opera) on their way to Cape Town and Durban.
Highlights of these cruises include the Suez Canal transit, the city of Aqaba in Jordan, Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius, La Possession on the neighbouring island of Reunion, before arriving on South African shores on December 5 in Cape Town and November 20 in Durban.
