MyTravel launches low fares airline
MyTravel Group today announced that MyTravelLite is the new name for its low fares airline and unveiled that Birmingham International Airport will be its operating base.
MyTravelLite will operate the Airbus 320, initially two 180-seat aircraft which, from 1st October 2002, will fly to five destinations: Alicante, Malaga, Geneva, Paris (Beauvais) and Belfast International.
Managing Director of MyTravelLite Tim Jeans said that the new low fares airline already has a distinct edge over its rivals in the sector: “MyTravelLite has a unique operating model which delivers low operating costs whilst ensuring high standards of on-board service and reliability.”
He added: “The low fares sector is still in its infancy. As easyJet and go merge and absorb Deutsche BA, and Ryanair’s sights are set on taking on the European flag carriers like Lufthansa and Alitalia, this presents us with a unique opportunity.”
The airline expects 70% of bookings will be made via its new website www.MyTravelLite.com. A call centre has been established in Accrington, Lancashire, which will be the booking hub for calls from the UK, France, Switzerland and Spain. Bookings via the website and call centre can be made from 10am on Friday (9th August).
