National Express expands Stansted coach capacity
The first six of a new fleet of larger National Express coaches serving Stansted from London have taken to the road.
The company aims to have 20 of the coaches operating by September, each offering 61 seats, 12 more than the standard coach used by National Express.
This will provide an extra 2,000 seats a day on the route.
The new vehicles are fitted with leather reclining seats, air-conditioning and washroom facilities. They have a lift for people travelling in a wheelchair.
Chief executive Paul Bunting said: “Coaches are one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel and consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of using public transport.
“We want to ensure we are well positioned to cater for that demand and, as a leading provider of travel services, we are committed to sustainable and responsible travel by providing our customers with the latest vehicles on the market.”
