NCL passenger arrested for violent assault
A cruise passenger was violently attacked on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship leading to an arrest by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Squad.
A female passenger suffered a fractured jaw and arm, according to the FBI, with fellow passenger Jeff Smiley III arrested and facing assault charges.
He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
Smiley allegedly chased the woman through various areas of the cruise ship before attacking her on November 4.
The assault took place as the ship headed to San Juan in Puerto Rico, and was caught on CCTV.
The victim was thought to be Smiley’s girlfriend.
A San Juan court hearing denied a bail request and he must remain in custody until his trial.
