Industry veteran Chris Gilbert has taken over as managing director of luxury operator Beachcomber Tours.
He succeeds Mike Edwards who has stepped down after seven years but is to remain as a director of the company concentrating on strategic issues.
Gilbert brings 40 years of travel industry experience to the operator, having worked for British Caledonian, American Airlines and Air Mauritius as well as Thomas Cook, Ian Allan Travel, Forte, Meridien, One&Only Resorts and Beachcomber Hotels since 2007.
Chris Gilbert said: “It is a highly successful and profitable operator that delivers excellent service to the many travel agents that book with the company.
“Beachcomber Tours has been a consistent UK market leader to the Indian Ocean, Mauritius and Seychelles and benefits from having a very professional and competent team of staff and a superb portfolio of high quality hotels and resorts.
“I am confident that Beachcomber Tours will remain a market leader to the destinations of Mauritius and the Seychelles.”
Beachcomber Tours has been operating for 21 years in the UK. The Beachcomber portfolio consists of eight hotels in Mauritius and one in the Seychelles.
A new 194-room property, Trou aux Biches, is due to open in Mauritius in November.
