New CEO takes over at Kimpton
After completing the formalities of its sale to InterContinental Hotels Group, Mike DeFrino has assumed the role as Kimpton CEO, replacing Mike Depatie.
DeFrino is a Kimpton veteran of 18 years and moves up from COO, a role he has served in since 2012.
He started out with Kimpton in 1997 as general manager of the Alexis Hotel in Seattle.
Prior to joining Kimpton, DeFrino worked at several luxury hotel chains in the US.
"Kimpton is entering an unprecedented turning point with IHG, and if I’ve learned a thing or two over the past 18 years with the company, it’s that we’ve got the cultural foundation, passion and expertise to take our unique approach to hospitality to the next level," said DeFrino.
Predecessor DePatie will take a leadership role at KHP Capital Partners, the asset manager for the real estate investment funds that own around one-third of Kimpton’s properties.
He joins former Kimpton CFO Ben Rowe and Joe Long, the hospitality group’s former chief information officer at KHP.
