New chairman for Tourism Alliance
Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of Business In Sport and Leisure, is to be the new chairman of the Tourism Alliance.
She succeeds Bob Cotton, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, on January 13.
Business In Sport and Leisure is an umbrella organisation representing the interests of over 100 private sector companies in the sport, leisure and hospitality industry.
Ms Simmonds said: “There are significant challenges for the industry in the year ahead, including the progression of Gambling Bill, implementation of the Licensing Act and the need for Government to improve tourism statistics and produce tourism-related planning guidance.
“I look forward to representing the interests of the tourism industry and negotiating positive outcomes for these and other issues.”
The Tourism Alliance promotes the interests of its members to the government, thereby ensuring that the tourism industry is able to deliver on a target of increasing the revenue from tourism from £76 billion a year to £100 billion by 2010.
