New hotel for Canberra
Canberra has seen the opening of East Hotel, a four and a half star property developed by local businessman Dan Bisa.
The six-story hotel has 140 rooms in various studio and apartment-style combinations. Several "family-friendly" two-bedroom suites are available with kitchen facilities.
Bisa, owner of East Hotel and director of Bisa Hotels, said when the Canberra site came up for sale in 2009, he recognised that there was an opportunity to realise a long held dream and the East Hotel project began to take shape.
Architect Rodney Moss from Cox Architects, said it was important for Canberra to have a "city feel".
"We have created (at East Hotel) what we hope will become a hub for travellers to Canberra as well as locals," he said.
East Hotel is the first in a series of new generation of hotels to be developed by the Bisa Group, which will continue to search for suitable locations.
