Bmibaby, which is cutting a number of European city routes next summer from Birmingham, is to run a service to Menorca from East Midlands airport.

Flights will run three days a week between May 22 and October 24.

Prices start at £41.99 one way including taxes and charges for the flights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The airline expects to carry more than 19,500 passengers on the new service over the summer.

The Menorca route is in addition to new flights from East Midlands to Almeria next summer.

The budget airline’s managing director Crawford Rix said: “Menorca is currently not served by any other low cost airline from East Midlands Airport, so by launching this new route we are offering customers a unique summer destination at fantastically low fares.

The airport’s managing director Penny Coates said: “With 14 destinations from East Midlands Airport, Bmibaby are a crucial airline partner for us and their decision today is a demonstration of their continued confidence in our relationship.”
