New UK chair for Caribbean tourism
Sharon Bernstein, general manager of Grenada Board of Tourism UK & Ireland, has been appointed Chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation CTO (UK) with immediate effect for a period of two years.
She replaces John Taker, Virgin Holidays purchasing director, who stood down at the end of his term in office.
Bernstein, a director of London-based destination representation agency Eyes2market U, has been a member of the CTO (UK) Board of Directors since 2010 and brings with her over 20 years of travel and tourism expertise.
Her relationship with the Caribbean extends over two decades, having worked with the Grenada Board of Tourism in various capacities since 2000.
"The work of the CTO has a direct impact across the Caribbean region, where over 14% of GDP is generated by tourism," she said. "It is vital that we continue and further develop strategies that create clear sales messages through succinct and targeted marketing and lobbying campaigns."
Carol Hay, director of marketing UK & Europe, said: "Sharon is an expert marketer and has been a stalwart of the Committee in recent years, contributing to the success of promotional strategies and training campaigns. With Sharon as Chair, we’re confident that the Committee will continue to position the Caribbean as a leading destination for UK and Irish travellers."
