New York City, Orlando No. 1 and 2 in US hotel rooms

New York City is not only the most expensive hotel market in the US but it’s also where more rooms are under construction than anywhere else.
 

Currently, New York has 6,763 hotel rooms under construction, according to STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report.
 

New hotels keep coming. The 316-room Dream Downtown hotel, affiliated with Wyndham, is due to open in May while in June, the 699-room Yotel is scheduled to open.
 

No. 2-ranked Orlando showed the biggest year-over-year increase. Its 2,636 rooms under construction represents a 108 percent increase compared to March of 2010.

• Dallas – 1,475 rooms
 

• Miami-Hialeah – 1,026 rooms
 

• Philadelphia – 799 rooms
 

• Chicago – 778 rooms
 

• Atlanta – 691 rooms
 

• Houston – 680 rooms
 

• Nashville – 446 rooms
