Next meeting, try yoga

Oxygen breaks and yoga are among California-style, new age perks now being offered by The Sofitel San Francisco Bay.

Features of the so-called “Banquets of the Future” include:

  • Snack breaks that not only feed the mouth but other senses as well such as stimulating textured backdrops and roasted nuts that provide “aroma therapy.”

  • An “out of the meeting room box” that changes the meeting from traditional presentations to retail set-ups and trendy merchandising displays.

  • “Sports breaks” to include basketball, badminton and dart boards.

  • “Oxygen breaks” that provide stress relief through yoga and stretching exercises.

To get away from standard meeting setups, the Sofitel also offers options such as copper table tops instead of traditional linens.

Expanded food and beverage options include tapas style tastings and organically grown local food.

The hotel’s 15 meeting rooms with 19,000 square feet of space were recently refurbished.

“I think we’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from customers because it is different,” said Carolyn Yim, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing.

Whether or not the California concepts are the wave of the future in the meeting market is still open to debate.
