Landmark Indonesian island resort Nihi Sumba is edging closer towards its goal ofraising $200,000 to combat the spread of Covid-19 and support local communities impacted by the pandemic.
Nihi Sumba and Sumba Foundation are working together on the Sumba Crisis Relief initiative and have so far raised nearly $165,000.
The campaign has been circulated to Nihi Sumba’s loyal customers around the globe.
Many clients have contributed and donations however small are being sought, as just US$20 is sufficient to feed a family of three for a month.
However, there is an added incentive for donors to contribute more.
The top donor will receive a five-night complimentary stay at Nihi Sumba, the second highest donation receives a three-night stay and the third a one-night stay.
Chris Burch, the owner of Nihi Sumba resort, has committed to match any donations made up to the fundraising goal.
Following the principles of the Indonesian community practice of ‘Gotong Royong’ which means to work together to achieve a common goal, the campaign goes beyond food aid, which so far includes 36 tons of rice.
Funds will also support the provision of medical equipment, personal protective equipment, testing, virus education and prevention.
It will also support the Sumba Foundation’s water and malnutrition projects.
