‘Nut Rage’ Korean Air exec jailed
The daughter of Korea Air’s chairman has been jailed for a year over a ‘nut rage’ incident.
Heather Cho, also known as Hyun-ah, who was a former executive of Korean Air, was found guilty of breaking aviation law in a South Korean court.
She was jailed for one year, avoiding a possible maximum sentence of 10 years.
A Korean Air plane was leaving New York JFK Airport for Seoul on December 5 when witnesses say Ms Cho became angry with a flight attendant over macadamia nuts being served in a bag and not a bowl.
She ordered the plane to return to the gate and offload the chief steward.
Her lawyers had claimed aviation safety was not violated as the plane was still being pushed by a truck away from the gate.
However the judge rejected that argument saying the plane had left the gate and was technically ‘in flight’.
