Online agents reap benefit of Royal Wedding
Expedia.co.uk has seen London bookings soar by 266% for the Royal Wedding in April.
Bookings from the US are three times as high as bookings from Brits for London breaks during the royal event.
At the same time, Expedia has seen a surge in bookings from Brits wanting to get away from the UK and to take advantage of the extra bank holiday.
Bookings for 11-night stays are up 80% as Brits look to make the most of the chance to take a long break but only taking three days off work.
In response, Expedia has launched a dedicated Royal Wedding travel page, featuring deals in London and options for those looking to get away.
Meanwhile, Hotels.com said searches on its UK site for the week ending April 29, the day of the ceremony, are up by 212% compared to the same period last year.
Based on January 1-17, the online hotel provider said searches for Tenerife were up 154%, up 235% for Marrakech and 147% for Portugal. Cancun has also seen a 125% rise in searches.
