Oops! I packed the stun gun and the knife!
United States security authorities appear to have been embarrassed once again with the news that a female traveller got through security at New York’s La Guardia airport – carrying a stun gun and a knife. According to the online news provider Ananova, the woman realised what she was carrying in her bag shortly after a stopover at Detroit, while en route to Denver. The website reports that as soon as she realised, she called a flight attendant. The pilot of the Spirit Airlines flight reportedly radioed ahead to Denver, where the woman was met by police. She was released without charge shortly afterwards. A spokesman for the carrier reportedly said: “She did the right thing by giving up the items voluntarily, and she was never malicious. We never considered her a threat. It was an honest but odd mistake – but it’s true that people often don’t think about what is in their luggage.” The Transportation Security Administration has not yet commented on the incident.
