Opodo buys two more online agents
Opodo has bought Nordic online travel agency, Travellink.
The acquisition marks Opodo’s entry into the Scandinanvian market.
Travellink was founded in 2000 by SAS, Amadeus and Tele2 and operates in the corporate and leisure sectors.
The online agency also announced it has acquired 100% of Eviaggi, an Italian online agency in which it first announced an interest in September last year, when it took over operational management of Eviaggi.
In a statement Opodo said it now has presence in five major European markets: UK, France, Germany, Italy and Scandinavia.
It said: “Scandinavia is the fourth largest European market for online travel with E884million gross sales in 2004, whilst Italy is the fifth largest with E627million gross sales in 2004.”
The Amadeus-owned Opodo has been undertaking an aggressive strategy of acquisition in order to expand across Europe.
In January 2005 it bought UK longhaul specialist, Quest Travel, and a month later acquired Karavel, a French tour operator.
