Outback Way receives .$5 million Federal Grant
The Outback Way will become a packaged tourism route after receiving a Australian Tourism Development Program Grant of $485,390.
The Grant, which will directly stimulate tourism in the Outback, was announced by Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey for the route which links Laverton in Western Australia with Winton in Queensland, following existing roads through the outback, but which requires better signposting to help visitors understand the tourism points of interest.
Patrick Hill, Chairman of the Outback Highway Development Council said, “The Outback Way is an iconic journey through the heart of the nation. It is now a reality.”
“We now have the opportunity to package and promote this great Australian journey, enabling travellers to experience the deep cultural richness, the diverse landscapes and the magnificent expanse of inland Australia.”
“The inland communities along the Outback Way will gain so much from the increased awareness and understanding of their uniqueness and increased economic opportunities can now be realised throughout the region due to the integrated tourism project funds.”
The funding will help develop the Outback Way with interpretative products, maps and roadside markings for key cultural, art, history, topographic, flora and fauna highlights.
